In the Family Circus cartoon, grandmother is talking to Billy: “Growing old doesn’t bother me, dear. I put the emphasis on ‘growing’.” The poet summed it up by saying, “Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be.”
How old is old? Someone has come up with these statistics: Hardly Old, 55-64; Elderly, 65-74; The Aged, 75-84; Very Old, 85-plus. But truthfully, you might not find yourself in any of these categories—maybe younger, or maybe older? Our church has a cross-section of all these ages.
As you look around our church, you will find senior adults involved in a variety of ministries — all the way from the kitchen to volunteer receptionists. The little word “no” does not seem to fit into their vocabulary when asked to do a job.
Many and varied opportunities are provided for senior adults to serve and be productive. In addition to the regularly scheduled programs on Sundays and Wednesdays, classes in painting, knitting, line dancing, and singing are offered throughout the year. Also, there are occasions to build, repair, plant, paint, and enjoy recreation together.
Come!! Grow with us!!
