Involved in Missions
at
First Baptist Church
First Baptist Church is committed to being a
mission-minded church. We seek to be on mission by providing ministry to our local
community and giving generously of our financial resources so that mission work can take
place around the globe.
In Knoxville, members of First Baptist are involved in various mission opportunities. We
join with other churches in the city to provide food through the FISH program. Financial
support and volunteer resources are provided for local rescue missions in the city.
Individual members, missions groups, and Sunday School classes offer caring service to
persons in prison, housing projects, and senior adult communities. Our strategic location
in the center of the city offers many opportunities for local missions.
Missions involves the sending of the good news of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth.
The church is a part of cooperative mission efforts that allow us to join with other
Baptists in the support of worldwide missions. Members of First Baptist may choose to
support the mission program of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship or the Southern Baptist Convention with their offerings. In addition to these international mission
opportunities, our church offers generous support for the
Tennessee Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, Tennessee Baptist
Convention, and the Knox County Association of Baptists. A weekly live
broadcast of the morning worship service on WVLT, Channel 8 shares the gospel with a wide area. Through these
mission programs and others, First Baptist seeks to be faithful to the Great Commission of
Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:18-20).
